Ethiopia West Guji – Buku Abel
This exceptional coffee from the highlands of Ethiopia’s West Guji region is grown by smallholder producers in the Buku Abel village, one of the highest-altitude coffee-growing areas at 2,275 meters. Cultivated from heirloom varieties 74110, 74112, and 74158, this coffee is naturally processed, imparting a vibrant and fruit-forward profile. With tasting notes of chocolate, apricot, blueberry, and guava, it’s a deliciously complex cup.
Each step in its journey is meticulously handled: hand-harvested cherries are sorted, dried on raised beds, and turned frequently to lock in optimal flavour. Processed at the Buku washing station by Esayas Bareso and sourced through SNAP Specialty Coffee, this coffee reflects Ethiopia's rich heritage of smallholder expertise and innovation.

Buku Abel Village & Washing Station – West Guji, Ethiopia
This coffee comes from the Buku Abel village, nestled within the mountainous terrain of West Guji, Ethiopia, where it’s grown at one of the highest altitudes for coffee production in the world—2,350 meters above sea level. Here, smallholder farmers cultivate local Ethiopian varieties (74110, 74112, and 74158) on family plots, passed down through generations. These varieties, originally developed by Ethiopia’s Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC), are chosen for their resilience and unique flavours, well-suited to the region’s high altitude and climate.
The community’s coffee cherries are processed at the nearby Buku washing station, operated by Esayas Bareso. After a meticulous hand-harvest, cherries are sorted for quality, then naturally processed and sun-dried on raised beds. This careful approach to drying and processing enhances the coffee's bright, fruit-forward profile, with frequent turning of cherries to ensure even drying and optimal sweetness. Once dried, the beans are hand-sorted a final time before export, ensuring a high-quality, consistent cup.
Sourced by SNAP Specialty Coffee, a trusted Ethiopian partner since 2008, Buku Abel’s coffee reflects the dedication and expertise of Ethiopian smallholders, where every stage of coffee production is deeply rooted in tradition and attention to detail.
